Episode 28: Resilience… The Strength That Carries Us Through

Some seasons test us in ways we never expected. They stretch us… shape us… and sometimes even break us open a little. But in those same seasons, God begins to grow something deeper inside us… something stronger. Something we often don’t see until we’re on the other side of the storm.

This week’s episode is all about resilience. Not the popular version the world talks about… the kind that tells us to hustle hard, push through, or pretend we’re not hurting. I’m talking about the kind of resilience that Scripture speaks over us… the kind God forms in quiet places, in honest moments, and in the cracks of our everyday life.

As I prepared for this episode, I found myself going back to something Frederick Buechner wrote in Speak What We Feel. In that book, he reminds us that real healing doesn’t come from avoiding the hard parts of our story. It comes from naming them… speaking them… and letting God breathe truth into the places we often try to hide. The writers he studied—people like Gerard Manley Hopkins and Mark Twain—didn’t run from sorrow. They wrestled with it. And through that wrestling, they found something sacred.

That’s resilience.

Not perfection. Not pretending everything is okay. But choosing, day by day, to keep showing up. To keep trusting. To keep hoping.

Psalm 34:18 reminds us… “The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart…” God draws close when life feels heavy. And sometimes resilience is simply letting Him meet us there.

This episode also includes an invitation to walk alongside me as we head into the final stretch of the year. I’m preparing for the One Word Devotional… a simple, powerful way to start the new year with clarity and focus. If you haven’t already, make sure to follow me on social media so you don’t miss the updates—and share it with someone who might need it, too.

Resilience isn’t something you build alone. It grows in community. It grows in truth. And it grows when you’re willing to speak what you feel and trust God with the rest.
