🔥 Episode 17: Turning Anger into Growth

Anger is one of the most powerful emotions we experience. It can feel overwhelming, explosive, or even shameful at times. Many of us were raised to believe that anger is always wrong… something to push down or ignore. But the truth is, anger itself isn’t the enemy. It’s what we do with our anger that determines whether it becomes destructive—or transformative.

In Episode 17 of the Rooted for Growth podcast, I share how anger can actually become a catalyst for growth when we learn to recognize it, honor it, and redirect it in healthy ways.

Why Anger Shows Up

Anger often appears when something important has been threatened—our values, our relationships, or our sense of safety. It signals that something is off. Instead of treating anger as a sign of failure, we can learn to see it as a signal pointing us toward deeper reflection and change.

Steps to Transform Anger into Growth

In the episode, I walk through four practical steps for approaching anger differently:

  1. Recognize it – Notice when anger rises up instead of stuffing it down.

  2. Name it – Call it what it is. Sometimes simply saying, “I’m angry” releases some of the pressure.

  3. Understand it – Ask yourself: what is my anger trying to tell me? What value or boundary feels violated?

  4. Express it in an honoring way – Redirect that energy into something constructive, whether through creativity, movement, or honest conversation.

I also share examples of how people have used anger as fuel for creativity: an artist painting through frustration, a songwriter pouring emotions into lyrics, or even in my own life—turning a normal 5-mile walk into a record-setting 10-mile trek simply because I needed to channel my anger somewhere healthy.

The Spiritual Perspective

The Bible doesn’t say anger itself is sinful. Ephesians 4:26 reminds us, “Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath.” The key is not to let anger consume us or control us. Instead, we can allow God to shape that raw energy into purpose.

Anger can fuel action against injustice, motivate us to make necessary changes, and even drive us toward deeper faith when we surrender it to God.

A New Way Forward

What if instead of fearing anger, we learned to grow through it? What if we saw it as an opportunity to dig deeper, strengthen our roots, and become more of who God has called us to be?

💬 “Anger isn’t automatically sinful. It’s what we choose to do with it that determines whether it brings healing or harm.”
